Missile and Drone Strikes Hit Kurdish Opposition Bases
Iran has launched missile and drone strikes against the headquarters of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in the autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq, according to Iranian state media and regional officials. The attacks mark a significant escalation in cross-border military actions as tensions rise across the Middle East.
Iranian authorities said the strikes targeted what they described as “anti-Iran separatist forces” operating from bases inside Iraqi Kurdistan. According to Iranian media reports, the operation involved multiple missiles and dozens of drones aimed at Kurdish opposition positions near the Iran–Iraq border.
Officials said the targets included headquarters and camps used by Kurdish militant groups that oppose the Iranian government.
Casualties Reported at Kurdish Bases

Kurdish opposition officials reported casualties from the strikes. At least one person was killed and several others were injured when a missile struck one of the bases on Wednesday morning at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time (08:00 GMT), according to reports from the scene.
The strikes targeted camps belonging to several Iranian Kurdish opposition organizations based in northern Iraq. These include groups such as the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan, and the Kurdistan Freedom Party.
Local officials said explosions were heard in areas around the cities of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, where several Kurdish opposition groups maintain headquarters and training facilities.
Part of Wider Regional Escalation
The strikes come amid the expanding conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Iranian officials have accused Kurdish opposition groups of attempting to exploit the broader war to launch attacks inside Iran.
Some Western reports have suggested that Kurdish fighters based in Iraq could play a role in opening a ground front against Iran, although no formal military operation has been confirmed.
Iranian authorities said the strikes were intended to prevent Kurdish militants from crossing the border and destabilizing western Iranian provinces.
Kurdish Opposition Groups Based in Iraqi Kurdistan
For decades, northern Iraq has hosted camps and rear bases for several Iranian Kurdish opposition groups. These groups have historically opposed Tehran and seek greater political autonomy for Kurdish regions inside Iran.
The camps are typically located in mountainous areas near the border, allowing fighters to move across difficult terrain between Iraq and Iran.
Iran has repeatedly conducted cross-border strikes against these bases in recent years, accusing them of supporting armed attacks and unrest inside Iran.
Regional officials say the latest strikes highlight how the wider Middle East conflict is spilling into neighboring territories and raising concerns about further escalation.
