Federal authorities announced they have disrupted an alleged terrorist plot targeting a planned UFC event at the White House, preventing what investigators described as a coordinated attack involving advanced drones and sniper teams.
According to the FBI, multiple suspects were arrested during a series of operations conducted across several states. Officials said the individuals were allegedly preparing to carry out an attack designed to target attendees, security personnel, and government officials during the high-profile event.
FBI Announces Major Counterterrorism Success
FBI Director Christopher Wray stated that the agency, working alongside federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, identified and dismantled the alleged terror cell before it could execute its plans.
Authorities reported that investigators uncovered evidence indicating the suspects intended to deploy sophisticated unmanned aerial systems alongside sniper positions positioned near the event venue. Officials said the arrests were made before operational preparations were completed.
Plot Allegedly Involved Advanced Drones
Investigators stated that the alleged conspirators had acquired or attempted to acquire advanced drone technology capable of carrying surveillance equipment and potentially hazardous payloads. Federal officials did not disclose the specific models involved or the exact capabilities of the systems under investigation.
Security experts have increasingly warned about the use of commercially available drones in attacks against public gatherings and critical infrastructure.
White House Event Security Reviewed
The planned UFC event at the White House had already been expected to operate under one of the most comprehensive security frameworks in the United States. Following the arrests, federal agencies indicated they were reviewing additional security measures for future public events involving government facilities.
Officials emphasized that there was no longer an active threat associated with the alleged plot and that public safety had not been compromised.
Investigation Continues
Federal prosecutors are expected to pursue charges related to terrorism, weapons offenses, conspiracy, and other federal crimes. Authorities have not released the identities of all individuals arrested, citing the ongoing investigation.
Officials also declined to disclose whether the suspects were linked to a foreign organization, domestic extremist group, or self-radicalized network. Additional information is expected to emerge through court proceedings and future FBI briefings.
Authorities Urge Public Vigilance
Law enforcement agencies credited intelligence gathering, interagency cooperation, and surveillance efforts for preventing the attack before it reached an operational stage.
The FBI stated that the investigation remains active and that authorities continue to assess whether additional individuals may have been involved in planning or supporting the alleged operation.
