Theft Attempt Goes Wrong
According to police, Surasak entered the Yaowarat Bang Phli gold shop and repeatedly asked to try on a gold bracelet. Shop staff initially refused to let him wear the jewelry but eventually agreed after multiple requests.
Unbeknownst to the suspect, the shop owner quietly locked the store’s doors as a precaution. After placing the bracelet on his wrist, Surasak allegedly attempted to run out of the store, only to discover that the exits had been secured. Police were then called to the scene. (Bangkok Post)
Financial Troubles Behind the Crime
During questioning, Surasak reportedly told investigators that he had recently caused a traffic accident by driving against the flow of traffic and was facing compensation claims of approximately 200,000 baht.
Unable to pay for the damages, he said he became desperate and decided to steal the gold bracelet in hopes of obtaining money to cover the costs. Police said the suspect admitted his actions after being detained inside the shop. (inkl)
