The Wisconsin Badgers are set to lace up for a Week 2 bout against the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Camp Randall Stadium.
Following its 17-0 win over the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks on Aug. 28, Wisconsin enters its second contest of the 2025 campaign with one major injury update.
After suffering a non-contact lower-body injury in the second quarter of Week 1, quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. remained on the sidelines for the remainder of the contest. In his place, second-string pass-thrower Danny O’Neil assumed reps as the Badgers’ lead quarterback. O’Neil will retain his position as the starter against the Blue Raiders at Camp Randall Stadium. A recent MRI confirmed Edwards suffered a sprained knee, and he is considered week-to-week.
In Edwards’ place, O’Neil tallied 120 yards through the air and two total scores to guide Wisconsin to a shutout victory over the RedHawks. The first-year Badger registered 2,181 passing yards and 12 scores as a true freshman at San Diego State. He will look to continue to perform with that type of poise for the second straight week.
Outside of quarterback, Wisconsin’s Week 2 depth chart confirmed that tight end Tucker Ashcraft will miss a second straight game due to a left leg injury. Program veteran Jackson Acker, Missouri State transfer Lance Mason, second-year pass-catcher Grant Stec and depth tight end Jackson McGohan will operate in a committee against Middle Tennessee State.
While Acker is listed at No. 1 on the depth chart, Stec emerged as a reliable threat in the Week 1 win. His ProFootballFocus grade of 94.8 led all Badgers on offense, and he notched 31 receiving yards in the process.
Center Jake Renfro, who sustained a lower-body injury in August, also remains active for Week 2. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1.
