What’s the latest update on Commanders WR Terry McLaurin?

When will Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin make his return?

McLaurin injured his quad in a Week 3 win over the Las Vegas Raiders and missed the next four games. He returned in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs, showing how much he was missed. McLaurin caught three passes for 54 yards, including a touchdown in what was a tie game at halftime.

Unfortunately, McLaurin reinjured his quad and has been out of the lineup ever since.

The quad injury has limited Washington’s No. 1 receiver to only four games. On Sunday, he will miss his seventh game of the 2025 season. He had only missed three career games entering this season. The most frustrating part for McLaurin is that he held out for a contract extension this summer. And after contentious negotiations with the Commanders, the two sides reached a deal two weeks ahead of the season opener.

At 3-7, Washington’s current playoff hopes are slim. The Commanders badly need a win on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins in Madrid. With a week off, Washington could get a healthy McLaurin and, possibly, quarterback Jayden Daniels back after the bye.

McLaurin made the trip to Spain with the Commanders this week. Head coach Dan Quinn offered an update on McLaurin’s status.

“Yeah, so he is actually, he’s here and he’ll do some of the movement and begin the on-field portions of the rehab,” Quinn said on Wednesday. “So, the first couple of weeks, he was not able to do that. And so, now he’s able to begin some of the on-field portions of the rehab. And so, that’ll take the buildup time to do that, but we’re glad he is here taking the next step on the on-field side. So, sometimes these injuries take longer than you want, and they’re not predictable to say it’s going to be this set time. And so, we’re just going to continue to say, okay, next step, next step, next step. And so, the on-field portion is a good sign that, okay, we can now take the next steps.”

Even if the Commanders win this week, they will be 4-7, with a tough stretch to finish the season. Washington already has six NFC losses, and Green Bay currently holds the No. 7 seed at 5-3-1. The Packers have a head-to-head win over the Commanders, too. But having McLaurin back will help. So, too, will Daniels.

The problem is Washington’s defense. Can it get enough stops to help the offense?

Whether the Commanders get to the playoffs or not, McLaurin will return this season. That’s positive news in a season full of not-so-good news.
