We hit 2 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and wearing it now

Raiders football is so close, you can almost taste it. Today is their final practice before their season opener. Which means they are just two days away from their season opening matchup with the Patriots at Foxboro. And with our countdown at No. 2 we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction.

No. 2

Who’s wearing it now: RB Ashton Jeanty

The team’s top pick in this year’s draft out of Boise State. Jeanty came within an eyelash of breaking Barry Sanders’s yards record last season. And he largely did it after first contact. He averaged seven yards per carry last season, including five yards after contact. Sometimes that was slipping the tackle and sometimes it was plowing through the defender. Naturally he is the unquestioned starter from day one for the Raiders this season. And in tow days the man they call “deuce” will finally take an NFL field.

Who wore it best: K Daniel Carlson

With Ashton “Deuce” Jeanty now on the team, Carlson surrendered the number two jersey, returning to the number 8 he had previously worn. Carlson wore the number two since 2020. In 2021, he was named first team All Pro. The following year he was second team All Pro. Making Carlson the first player to bring some honor back to the number that was, for a time, considered a stigmata created by colossal draft bust JaMarcus Russell. Consider invoking his name a Dishonorable Mention.
