Three Florida players who will give LSU football trouble in Week 3 game

LSU’s game against the Florida Gators on Saturday features an intriguing mix of players and matchups, with Florida having plenty of talent on both sides of the ball but suffering a loss to AAC opponent South Florida last week. LSU was in a similar situation in Week 2, performing far below expectations against Louisiana Tech.

Both teams are incredibly talented from top to bottom, but didn’t play the way many expected them to last week. However, with Billy Napier coaching for his job from here on out, expect Florida to come out with a different fire than they had against the Bulls.

Here are the three Gators who could tip the scales against LSU.

Jadan Baugh — RB

Baugh committed to Florida as a three-star recruit in 2024, but took over the lead role last season as a true freshman and hasn’t given it up, rushing 27 times for 197 yards and a touchdown at an impressive 7.3 yards per attempt in 2025. His 7.3 YPA is the 11th-best mark in the nation among backs with over 20 touches, per PFF.

Baugh is a hard-nosed, grind-it-out back who breaks tackles with power rather than finesse. This approach suits him well, as he ranks third in the country with 17 forced missed tackles. Standing 6’1” and weighing 235 pounds, he makes sure defenders feel his presence every time he gets the chance, as shown below.

While it’s true that the Tigers have one of the best front sevens in the country, if Baugh gets going, he’ll be hard to stop.

Tyreak Sapp — DL

Sapp is Florida’s do-it-all option on the defensive line. They already have Caleb Banks, their pure interior lineman, whom we wrote about earlier today, but Sapp can wreck the game from multiple alignments—whether lined up on a guard’s outside shoulder or standing up on the edge. This versatility helped Sapp dominate against the Tigers in 2024, with three pressures, one sack, and four tackles for loss. Below are a few highlights from that performance, showcasing his athleticism, power, and instincts that make him such a dangerous threat.

Sapp and Banks are going to require the Tigers to lean into the passing game more than they have all season, with the four starters outside of Braelin Moore receiving an average run blocking grade of 55.5 for Weeks One and Two, per PFF.

D.J. Lagway — QB

Lagway entered the season on a similar hype train to former Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson, with a freakish arm, elite athleticism, but questions regarding his accuracy and footwork. He has hot and cold tendencies like Richardson as well. When Lagway is on, he looks unbeatable, but when things don’t sync up correctly, he’s prone to mistakes.

However, there’s a chance Lagway used up his off day against South Florida, struggling with a shoulder injury that bothered him for much of the summer. Gators head coach Billy Napier said he “continues to get exponentially better every day”, which doesn’t bode well for the Tigers.

Lagway’s arm talent can simply negate good defense, ripping balls into windows that defenders wouldn’t even consider possible, as shown below.

While LSU has one of the best passing defenses in the country, Lagway is dangerous against anyone when he’s hot. The Tigers still stand a chance against Florida if that’s the case, but it will make toppling their first SEC opponent that much harder.
