The USC Trojans had no problems running the ball last week, totaling 233 rushing yards versus Missouri State. the Trojans had multiple backs run for 17 yards or more on each of their longest carries of the game. This week versus Georgia Southern, there will be even more opportunity for the Trojans to run wild.
Fresno State was able to total 351 yards on the ground versus Georgia Southern last week. Georgia’s Southern’s featured back Bryson Donelson had himself a day racking up 167 rushing yards and 1 touchdown. Pounding the rock was a huge emphasis for the Bulldogs and it panned out perfectly, leading to a 42-14 victory.
The Trojans have one of the deepest backfields in the country. The Trojans will lean on this dominant run game early, and it will carry them to another dominant offensive performance. We could see two Trojans rush for 100+ yards. Georgia Southern and former Trojan head coach Clay Helton surrender a lot of big plays. The Trojans can create big plays in both the passing attack and run game. USC fans would love to see Riley test how strong his run game is this week.
The Eagles will not catch a break defensively; this week’s game could get ugly again for them. Trojan fans would love nothing more than to see Helton have his team get blown out at the hands of USC. There is no guarantee how effective this run game will be Saturday, but I am leaning to the side that they run for more than the 351 yards Fresno State totaled last week.
