In the team’s final preseason game, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie defensive tackle Derrick Harmon went down with a knee injury that will keep him out for a minimum of this week’s game against the New York Jets. This means the presence of veteran Cameron Heyward is going to be an even bigger deal if the Steelers want to kick off the 2025 season with a win.
So it was great to see that on the all-important Friday practice, Heyward was in uniform and practicing with the team. Heyward has been in the midst of a holdout for much of the offseason, including all of the preseason, in hopes of getting a new contract. Heyward’s presence could signal he’s given up hope of a new contract this offseason and is back to work.

Heyward was hoping the Steelers would give him a big raise for this season after he returned from injury and put together an All-Pro campaign in 2024. This is obviously no guarantee that Heyward will be on the field and this could all be him just preparing to see if the team gives him a new contract at the last minute.
