The Pittsburgh Steelers‘ newest safety Jabrill Peppers has broken his silence on being cut from the New England Patriots.
Speaking with reporters for the first time as a Steeler, Peppers was asked to share his feelings about the abrupt end to his Patriots career — but there were no sour grapes from the talented defensive back. In fact, he’s focused and excited to play for Steelers HC Mike Tomlin.
“It just is what it is,” Peppers said. “Sometimes you’re not good enough. You play a long time in this league and you’re gonna get traded or cut. It is what it is. I’m happy Tomlin made the call. He was a coach I definitely said I wanted to play for before I retired. It just happened a lot sooner than I thought, but I’m happy to be here.”
Selected by the Browns in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Peppers played for Cleveland for two seasons before being traded to the New York Giants, where he remained from 2019-2021. Peppers signed with the Patriots in 2022 and played with New England for three seasons before he was cut two weeks ago.
The Patriots’ loss is the Steelers’ gain, however, as Peppers remains immensely talented and has the opportunity to get revenge on the team that cut him when New England hosts Pittsburgh in Week 3, on September 21.
