NFL insider says legendary Chiefs coordinator could be ideal candidate for Giants’ HC job

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has an excellent track record of developing outstanding talent on his staff, and could see one of his top underlings depart during the 2026 offseason.

This week, the New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll after a 2-8 start to their 2025 campaign.

Mike Kafka — a former offensive quality control assistant, quarterbacks coach, and passing-game coordinator for Kansas City during Reid’s tenure — was named New York’s interim skipper, but it was Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo who was named as a likely candidate to be the Giants’ next permanent head coach by NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Spagnuolo has worked for the Giants in the past and was a key member of the coaching staff that lifted New York to victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

While fans in Chiefs Kingdom would surely be sad to see their beloved defensive coordinator depart, Spagnuolo has certainly earned a promotion after helping Kansas City earn three Super Bowl titles.
