NFL Draft Prospect Profile: Michigan Wolverines LB Jaishawn Barham

Northwestern lost, 24-22 on a last second field goal, to the #18 Michigan Wolverines on Saturday. NU coach David Braun made it clear, after the game that he would not accept the premise of a “moral victory” in this result. Michigan had much more talent and depth than Northwestern, but Braun made it clear that almost doesn’t count; full stop.

At the weekly press conference previewing this game, Braun was asked about three of Michigan’s top players on defense.

“They’re problems,” Braun responded, when asked about Wolverines safety Rod Moore, edge rusher Derrick Moore and linebacker Jaishawn Barham.

“I mean, really, really good players. No. 1 [Barham] specifically, I mean, just twitchy and active, high motor.”

Barham may not have the highest draft stock of the three, but he might be the most accomplished player of this trio. Running back Justice Haynes probably has the highest draft stock of anybody on the team.

Last season, Barham started all 13 games for the Wolverines, and he finished second on the team with 66 tackles, including four tackles for a loss and a sack.

He brought it again against Northwestern, contributing a tackle for a loss and two passes defended in the game staged at the Friendly Confines. The Maryland transfer has shown a great penchant for the pass rush and stuffing the run. However, he needs to work on his pass coverage prowess.
