Josh Jacobs update: Packers RB won’t practice Wednesday, considered day to day

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said running back Josh Jacobs will not practice on Wednesday, but the team has a plan for getting him healthy and still considers him day to day with a knee injury sustained last Sunday in New York.

“We have a plan, yes,” LaFleur said Wednesday. “He will not practice today. The plan is to try and get him healthy enough to go. It’s just going to be a day by day thing. He’s truly day to day. We’ll see how he progresses as the week unfolds.”

The Packers face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, and the team hasn’t ruled out Jacobs from recovering in time to play.

Jacobs suffered a knee contusion after going down hard on the unforgiving surface at MetLife Stadium in the first half of last Sunday’s win over the Giants. He exited in the second quarter and did not return.

Jacobs has rushed for 648 yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 games. Emanuel Wilson (220 rushing yards, 4.2 yards per carry) and Chris Brooks (10 touches, 64 total yards) are the current backups behind Jacobs, and Pierre Strong Jr. (46 career games) is available on the practice squad. It’s also possible MarShawn Lloyd will soon open his 21-day practice window.

The Packers will practice again Thursday and Friday before hosting the Vikings on Sunday at Lambeau Field. The final injury report — which will almost certainly include Jacobs with a status designation — arrives Friday afternoon.

LaFleur also said Jayden Reed will not open his 21-day practice window on Wednesday, but the slot receiver is excited to get back. Reed has been on injured reserve since injuring his collarbone in Week 2.
