The New York Jets defense will face a stiff test versus the Baltimore Ravens’ offense in Week 12.
Superstars in quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry will relish their opportunity against a Jets (2-8) defense that lacks star power after trading defenders Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner. New York head coach Aaron Glenn’s squad needs defenders to step up and fill the void.
Jets Wire identified three potential X-factors for the Jets on defense.
Jermaine Johnson II, EDGE
Jets EDGE Jermaine Johnson recorded his first career sack against Jackson and the Ravens in 2022. This week, Johnson went viral on social media for saying he altered his diet this week in preparation to face the dual-threat Jackson. He’s motivated to chase down the athletic, mobile quarterback.
Jermaine Johnson says he’s been staying away from sugary drinks as he gets ready to face Lamar Jackson on Sunday:
“I just want to shed off any kind of weight that’s slowing me down so I can turn those hurries or hits or pressures into sacks, because I can do that.” pic.twitter.com/1wMfWNzlU8

Brandon Stephens, CB
Brandon Stephens essentially became the Jets’ No. 1 cornerback following the Gardner trade. On Sunday, he’ll face a Ravens squad he spent his entire rookie contract (2021-24) with. Stephens will draw tough assignments in coverage such as Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman.
Quincy Williams, LB
After an initial benching, veteran linebacker Quincy Williams has played his way back into the Jets’ starting lineup. The experienced off-ball linebacker must play a disciplined brand of football against the scrambling Jackson. Williams has to maintain gap discipline against both Jackson and Henry to prevent the Jets defense from getting gashed on the ground.
