The operation deployed thousands of officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies to conduct arrests targeting undocumented immigrants and individuals suspected of immigration violations.
While the operation initially produced a sharp rise in arrests, data and local reporting indicate that enforcement activity declined after widespread backlash triggered by fatal and controversial law-enforcement encounters involving federal agents.
