President Rejects Claims Israel Drew the United States Into War

President Donald Trump said he was not pulled into the ongoing war with Iran by Israel and suggested that the opposite may have happened, stating that he “might have forced Israel’s hand” to act militarily. The remarks came during a press conference at the White House while meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz as the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran continues to intensify.

Responding to questions from reporters about whether Israel influenced the United States to join the war, President Donald Trump dismissed the claim and said he believed Iran was preparing to attack first. He argued that U.S. military action was intended to prevent an imminent threat from Tehran.

“If anything, I might have forced Israel’s hand,” President Donald Trump said, adding that both the United States and Israel were prepared for military operations against Iran.

Comments Follow Debate Over Why the War Began

The president’s statement came after comments by Secretary of State Marco Rubio sparked questions about how the United States entered the conflict. Rubio had suggested that Washington launched strikes partly because it expected Israel to attack Iran and wanted to pre-empt retaliation against U.S. forces in the region.

Those remarks triggered political debate in Washington and among commentators about whether the United States acted independently or primarily in response to Israeli plans. Critics across the political spectrum questioned the administration’s explanation for the war and called for greater transparency about the decision-making process.

President Donald Trump’s latest comments appear to contradict the notion that Israel drove the decision, emphasizing instead that he believed Iran posed an immediate threat that required pre-emptive action.

President Claims Iran’s Military Capabilities Severely Weakened

During the same press conference, President Donald Trump also asserted that the U.S.–Israeli campaign had significantly damaged Iran’s military capabilities. He claimed that large portions of Iran’s air defenses, navy, radar systems, and air force had been neutralized during the strikes.

However, independent confirmation of the full extent of the damage has not been released, and Iranian officials have continued to report retaliatory missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. and allied positions across the region.

Political and Strategic Debate Continues

The war has quickly become a major issue in U.S. politics. Some lawmakers and commentators have questioned whether the administration had sufficient intelligence to justify the strikes, while others have supported the military campaign as necessary to counter Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.

Members of Congress from both parties have requested additional briefings from defense and intelligence officials to clarify the strategy and objectives of the military operation.

Meanwhile, tensions remain high across the Middle East as missile strikes, drone attacks, and naval confrontations continue between Iran and the U.S.–Israel alliance.

Conflict Continues to Escalate

The conflict began escalating sharply in late February after the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iranian military and nuclear-related facilities. Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, U.S. bases, and infrastructure across the region.

International leaders have called for de-escalation and renewed diplomatic negotiations, warning that a prolonged war could destabilize the wider Middle East and disrupt global energy markets.

For now, President Donald Trump maintains that the United States acted independently and pre-emptively—rejecting claims that Israel forced Washington into the conflict.
