England boss Thomas Tuchel says Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi has handled the late collapse of his transfer to Liverpool with a “brilliant attitude”.

Guehi is part of Tuchel’s squad for World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, joining up after a £35m deal to join the Premier League champions was called off on deadline day.

“Of course we had a chat with him,” Tuchel said in his pre-match news conference. “He looks absolutely fine and impressive on the field. He has had a good couple of weeks behind him on the performance side.

“He has continued like that in camp and he handles it [his transfer situation] with respect and with a brilliant attitude.”

Guehi was crucial to the Eagles winning their first trophy in last season’s FA Cup and has been a key member of the England squad for the past few seasons.

The 25-year-old was on the bench for Tuchel’s first game in charge – a 2-0 win over Latvia in March – but played 90 minutes in the 3-0 win over Latvia three days later.

He missed out on the squad for June’s matches through injury so will be hoping so re-establish himself as first choice for the Three Lions over the next week.

“He is the main driver of Crystal Palace’s success – the captain and the leader – and he played very impressively at the end of last season,” Tuchel added.
