Giants’ Micah McFadden ruled out after being carted off in first quarter of game at Commanders

Micah McFadden has been ruled out, the Giants announced, after New York’s starting linebacker was carted off with a leg/foot injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s Week 1 game at the Washington Commanders.

McFadden, whose lower right leg was in an air cast, got shaken up while tackling Austin Ekeler on a second-and-2 run to the Giants’ 11-yard line at the first quarter’s 8:09 mark.

New York’s entire sideline came out to console McFadden while he was on the cart during the injury timeout before the medical/training staff took him off the field.

McFadden, 25, is a fourth-year pro who appeared to be primed for a breakout season.

He has been with the Giants since New York selected the former Indiana University standout in the fifth round (No. 146 overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 232-pounder has developed from a late-round pick into a key defender, starting all 14 games that he played in 2024 — his third season — totaling 107 tackles (eight for loss), three sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

As a second-year pro in 2023, McFadden made 101 tackles (12 for loss), one sack and four fumble recoveries while starting 14 of 16 games.

He debuted with 59 tackles (six for loss), two sacks and one forced fumble in 17 games (seven starts) during his rookie season.
