Commanders make roster moves, two players fined ahead of Week 11 vs. Dolphins in Madrid

Preparing for their Week 11 contest against the Miami Dolphins, the Washington Commanders elevated two from their practice squad on Saturday.

The Commanders elevated running back Chase Edmonds and cornerback Tre Hawkins from the practice squad. Edmonds was a surprise: although Chris Rodriguez had been injured last week, he was practicing this week and expected to play Sunday. Apparently, things might not be so clear regarding Rodriguez? Hawkins was just signed to the Commanders’ practice squad on November 5. A sixth-round draft pick of the NY Giants in the 2023 draft, Hawkins was waived by the Giants on September 9.

The Commanders, having declared TE Ben Sinnott out for Sunday’s game in Madrid, had the possibility that they might have elevated tight end Lawrence Cager, but they did not.

The NFL finally got around to addressing the fiasco involving defensive tackle Daron Payne, who punched Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. The NFL fined St. Brown $12,172 for unnecessary roughness for his punch/jab at Payne. Payne had then punched St Brown, was ejected from the game, and subsequently suspended for one game (Dolphins).

Two other Commanders did get fined on Saturday. Rookie LB Ale Kaho was fined $46,371 for an illegal use of the helmet. During kickoff coverage last week, Kaho made a big hit/tackle, but was actually concussed on the tackle when making helmet-to-helmet contact. The concussion was severe enough that Kaho remains out for Sunday’s game against Miami. As expected, DT Javon Kinlaw was also fined $28 555 for his role in a dispute during the Lions’ game when he made contact with an official.
