It’s finally time for the first meaningful Sunday of the new NFL season. We have waited a long few months, but the time is upon us. Let’s look at three of the most intriguing games taking place on Sunday.
1. Miami Dolphins at Indianapolis Colts
It is not out of the ordinary for a veteran quarterback on a new team to get a win and get the fans feeling optimistic about the rest of the season. Daniel Jones is now a Colt and has shown flashes in the past of being a capable quarterback, but has mainly been mediocre. This could be one of those games in which Jones pulls out the victory for the Colts due to his ability to move around the pocket and make a few plays. It’s not a prediction, but an intriguing matchup to see if Daniel Jones can hold off a mediocre QB in Anthony Richardson, whose progression and development have stalled thus far.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers at New York Jets
Yes, this game is also intriguing due to the quarterback matchup. Aaron Rodgers is now a Steeler and will be matching up against a former Steeler in Justin Fields. Will Fields treat this game as a revenge game and sneak out a win? He is perfectly capable of leading a team full-time. Will Rodgers revert to his old self and get this Steelers team into the playoffs and a run at the Super Bowl? Or will the Jets spoil it?
3. Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots
The Tom Brady and Bill Belichick curse may run deep with the Patriots for a few years to come. Tom Brady is now a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, and to think that he will not want to have a hand in scheming to beat the Patriots is crazy talk. Drake Maye may or may not be the guy, no pun intended. The Raiders’ first-round selection of bruiser rookie running back Ashton Jeanty also presents an intriguing mismatch for the Patriots’ defense. Expect Jeanty to receive a boatload of production, as he may be starting his NFL Rookie of the Year campaign. Also, the Patriots have their rookie running back, TreVeyon Henderson, listed at number two on the depth chart, but he will get his fair share of carries as well.
