Defending Arkansas Class 4A state champion Arkadelphia is going for another championship.

But the Badgers will face a stern test in an emerging Hot Springs squad as the two teams play on Thursday night in the “Spa City.”

Arkadelphia (1-0) opened its season with a 17-14 win last week at home against Camden Fairview. Hot Springs (1-0) also won its season opener, rolling past West Memphis, 57-20.

FOURTH QUARTER

FIELD GOAL ARKADELPHIA. Badgers add to their lead with a field goal with less than six minutes left. (Arkadelphia, 38-34 | 5:50, 4th) 

TOUCHDOWN ARKADELPHIA. Wow, what a momentum shift. Badgets force a punt and two plays later, throw a deep 76-yard pass and the PAT puts them back in front. (Arkadelphia, 35-34 | 10:23, 4th) 

TOUCHDOWN ARKADELPHIA. On the first play of the fourth, the Badgers get a TD catch in the end zone and the PAT cuts the Hot Springs lead to six. (Hot Springs, 34-28 | 11:55, 4th) 

– Arkadelphia starts the final quarter with the ball near the Hot Springs 20.

THIRD QUARTER

– Hot Springs had a first-and-goal at the 1, but Arkadelphia’s defense comes up huge and keeps the Trojans out.

TOUCHDOWN HOT SPRINGS. Another long TD pass, covering 55 yards, from Bishop Allen on a third-and-short, and the Trojans extend their lead. (Hot Springs, 34-21 | 7:15, 3rd) 

TOUCHDOWN HOT SPRINGS. Just 16 seconds into the second half, Hot Springs takes its first lead of the night on a 65-yard TD pass from Bishop Allen. But the snap on the PAT is bad and the Trojans aren’t able to convert, keeping their lead at six. (Hot Springs, 27-21 | 11:44, 3rd) 

HALFTIME

– A very good first half comes to an end. Arkadelphia jumped out to a 14-0 lead early and also led 21-7, but Hot Springs has come back to tie the score and we are tied at the break.
