The first round of the 2025 SuperMotocross World Championship playoffs commenced on Friday, with two free practice sessions for each division competing. Take a look at some footage from the track and take a look below to see who got the upper hand to start the weekend.

450 Class

Justin Cooper led the way in the opening 450 Seeded session, with a brilliant 2:00.578 lap. Chase Sexton moved his way to second as the session concluded, jumping ahead of Hunter Lawrence. This year’s Supercross and Motocross champions were a bit further back, with Jett Lawrence in fifth and Cooper Webb ninth.

The final 450 session featured the lead swapping multiple times. Chase Sexton and Eli Tomac held the top spots for the majority of the session until the checkered flag flew. The Lawrence brothers vaulted to the top of the leaderboard, with Hunter becoming the first premier class rider under the two minute mark. Jett jumped to second, with Tomac nipping Sexton for third. Benny Bloss ended the day as the top unseeded 450 racer, finishing 14th overall.

250 Class

250 class action began with a pair of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing teammates trading the top spot in the opening 250 Unseeded session. Daxton Bennick and Max Anstie traded the lead, cutting their lap times by nine seconds during the session. After opening with laps in the 2:15 range, Bennick ran a 2:06.714 on his third lap to top the session, just seven hundredths ahead of Anstie. The lead changed several times in the opening Seeded practice, with Cole Davies, Seth Hammaker, Maximus Vohland and Austin Forkner trading the lead in the first few minutes. Forkner’s teammate Jordon Smith held the lead after the third lap, until a fleet of fast laps at the end. Seth Hammaker dropped the times down to the 2:04 range, with Haiden Deegan clicking off a 2:03.938 as time expired.

Haiden Deegan and Seth Hammaker dueled once again in the second session, with Deegan taking the holeshot. On the first green flag lap, Hammaker laid down the fastest time of the session. The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider put down a 2:01.077, eight hundredths ahead of Deegan. Daxton Bennick led the unseeded session again, placing sixth overall.

SMX Next

The SMX Next All-Stars ran the first session of the day, with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Caden Dudney putting a solid lap together. Dudney’s 2:05.171 sat nearly four seconds ahead of teammate Kayden Minear in second. Owen Covell, Carson Wood and Tiger Wood completed the top five with Yamaha racers holding the first four positions.

Kayden Minear got revenge in the second session, becoming the first rider to hit the sub two minute mark. Minear took the lead near the beginning of the session and ended the day four seconds clear of Dudney. Kade Johnson, Owen Covell and Carson Wood joined Dudney in the 2:03 range but were unable to track down Minear.
