The Washington Commanders have cut former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Lawrence Cager. Washington cut Cager, who has converted to a tight end in the NFL, in order to sign Mitch Wishnowsky to their practice squad.
The Commanders previously signed Cager to their practice squad after the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline ahead of the 2025 NFL regular season. Cager is no stranger to bouncing around the NFL. He’s had stints with the New York Giants, New York Jets and Cleveland Browns. Now, he’s looking for a new NFL home. Cager is likely one injury away from receiving a call from the Commanders, who signed him in January.
Last season, the Giants released Cager ahead of the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline in August. The Giants later re-signed Cager to their practice squad before releasing him in October.
Cager did not appear in any games in 2024. He has appeared in 21 NFL games and has 19 career receptions for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Cager posted four catches for 36 yards and a touchdown during the 2023 season with New York.
Cager spent three seasons with the Miami Hurricanes before transferring to Georgia for the 2019 college football season. He finished his 33-game college career with 14 touchdowns and 1,157 receiving yards.
The 6-foot-5, 220-poound pass catcher is excellent at making contested catches over opposing defenders. This preseason, Cager caught four passes for 54 yards.
