For the second straight year, the Carolina Panthers failed to show up for a regular-season opener. But a few of their players actually did come ready for Week 1 at EverBank Stadium.
Here are the team’s studs and duds from Sunday’s disappointing 26-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars . . .
Dud: QB Bryce Young
Young hit on 18 of his 35 passes for 154 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He also lost a fumble and nearly threw a third pick, which would have stood if not for a defensive holding penalty on Jacksonville.
Over his three career regular-season openers, the former No. 1 overall pick has completed just 49.5 percent of his throws for 461 yards (153.7 per game), two touchdowns and six interceptions over a trio of blowout losses.
Stud: RB Chuba Hubbard
Hubbard, who caught Young’s lone touchdown pass on the day, looked strong despite pedestrian numbers. He rushed for a 57 yards on 16 carries and added 32 more yards (and the score) on three receptions.
Dud: C Austin Corbett
Corbett, the winner of this summer’s center competition, was not clean on his snaps and communication with Young. He delivered the ball high and early at times throughout the contest, contributing to the offense’s sloppy showing.
Stud: WR Tetairoa McMillan
Carolina’s 2025 first-round shined in his debut, reeling in five balls for a game-high 68 yards. McMillan looked confident and just plain natural during his first go as a pro.
Dud: Panthers run defense
A unit that allowed 40 more rushing yards than the next closest team in 2024 is off to a bad start in 2025.
Carolina relinquished 200 rushing yards on the day. Running back Travis Etienne led Jacksonville’s ground attack, amassing 143 yards on just 16 attempts.
