The Baltimore Ravens said on Monday that quarterback Lamar Jackson remains day-to-day and his availability for the upcoming clash against the Pittsburgh Steelers is still to be determined, injecting uncertainty into one of the NFL’s fiercest rivalries.

Head coach John Harbaugh told reporters that Jackson continues to be evaluated by the team’s medical staff after dealing with lingering soreness, declining to specify whether the former MVP would be ready to start when Baltimore faces Pittsburgh later this week.

“We’re going to take it day by day,” Harbaugh said. “Lamar is progressing, but we’re not going to rush anything. His status will depend on how he responds over the next couple of days.”

High Stakes in the AFC North

The Ravens–Steelers matchup carries significant playoff implications, as both teams remain locked in a tight AFC North race. Jackson’s potential absence would be a major factor, given his central role in Baltimore’s offense and his history of producing game-changing performances against division rivals.

Jackson has been one of the league’s most dynamic quarterbacks this season, combining explosive rushing ability with improved efficiency as a passer. His presence fundamentally alters defensive game plans, forcing opponents to account for his dual-threat capability on every snap.

Without him, Baltimore would likely turn to its backup quarterback, shifting toward a more conservative offensive approach built around the run game and short passing.

Practice Participation Under Watch

The Ravens did not provide details on Jackson’s practice workload, listing him as limited in recent sessions. League rules require teams to submit updated injury reports later in the week, which will offer clearer insight into whether Jackson is trending toward playing or sitting out.

Team officials emphasized that long-term health remains the priority, particularly with the postseason approaching.

“This isn’t just about one game,” a team source said. “It’s about making sure he’s right.”

Steelers Preparing for Either Scenario

On the other side, Pittsburgh has indicated it is preparing for both possibilities. Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said the Steelers are building game plans that account for Jackson’s mobility while also preparing for a more traditional offensive structure if he is sidelined.

“When Lamar’s out there, it’s a totally different challenge,” Austin said. “But you prepare for the Ravens, not just one player.”

A Rivalry Defined by Physicality

The Ravens–Steelers rivalry is among the NFL’s most physical and emotionally charged, often defined by narrow margins and late-game drama. Jackson has experienced mixed results against Pittsburgh in his career, but his ability to break containment has repeatedly stressed the Steelers’ defense.

Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the week progresses, aware that Jackson’s availability could tilt the balance in a game that may help decide the division.

For now, Baltimore is keeping its cards close to the vest.

“We’ll see where he’s at,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll make the best decision when the time comes.”
