The Vikings quarterback situation remains one of the lone roadblocks in front of this team in pursuit of a Super Bowl appearance, and ideally a victory. However, the narrative around J.J. McCarthy refuses to be anything other than a hurricane of chaos for the team and him. Heading into Week 12, the team needs to be able to secure a win against a talented Green Bay Packers squad.
However, according to ESPN insider Dan Graziano, the Vikings may finally be concerned with the play of their quarterback.
In a piece discussing the takeaways from Week 11, Graziano was asked if the Vikings are concerned with McCarthy. His answer painted a rather drastic picture of things in Minnesota. He writes, “They sure are, as Kevin lays out well, and you can see some of the frustration from the other players on the offense.ย Justin Jeffersonย slamming his helmet on the sideline isn’t something you see very often. I think that’s a big part of the concern the Vikings have — keeping everything together around McCarthy as he endures the growing pains. I don’t believe they’ve seriously considered going to Brosmer, who as you mentioned probably needs even more seasoning than McCarthy. The Wentz injury has really deprived them of any serious alternative even if they wanted to sit McCarthy to let him catch his breath.”
If the Vikings have to let McCarthy sit and catch his breath, as Graziano suggests, they may already be doomed. He has been in the league nearly two years by now, was a seasoned starter at Michigan, and he needs a breather?
The Vikings need to see something from him over the final weeks of the year, or else it will be a long offseason.
