The end of the regular season is just around the corner, and NC State is intent on taking its postseason fate right down to the wire, it appears. The suspense is … well actually there’s not that much suspense. I’m not sure I even care that much about getting to a bowl game. It’d be nice, I guess.
I expect that’ll come down to the UNC game, since I don’t see NC State’s defense figuring out what to do with Florida State’s offense this week. The Seminoles are modest 4.5-point favorites (after opening at -2.5), but this is a rough matchup for the Wolfpack considering FSU’s strong rushing attack and its ability to create explosive plays.
The Noles’ underlying performance has been good, despite the 5-5 record. And the baffling loss at Stanford aside, the others have been understandable (UVA, Miami, Pitt, Clemson). They’ve come up short in finding a follow-up breakthrough to the Alabama win in Week 1, and their season could have unraveled after the Stanford game, but they got themselves back on track with comfortable wins at home against Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. No reason to think they’re coming to Raleigh ready to hold a pity party for themselves.
