Public Support Remains Strong as War Continues
A large majority of Israelis continue to support the ongoing military campaign against Iran, even as civilians endure frequent air-raid warnings, missile attacks, and weeks of national disruption.
Recent public opinion surveys indicate strong backing for the war effort. A poll conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute found that about 82% of Israelis overall support the military campaign, including 93% of Jewish Israelis, while support among Israel’s Arab minority is significantly lower at around 26%.
The conflict began on February 28, 2026, when Israeli and U.S. forces launched coordinated strikes on Iranian military targets in several cities, including Tehran and Isfahan. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. facilities across the region.
Despite the threat of retaliation and disruption to daily life, many Israelis say they believe the war is necessary to address what leaders describe as a long-standing security threat from Iran.
War Brings Disruption to Daily Life
The war has dramatically affected everyday life across Israel. The government declared a nationwide state of emergency, closing schools and banning large gatherings while mobilizing tens of thousands of military reservists.
Air-raid sirens have sounded repeatedly in major cities as Iranian missiles and drones targeted Israeli territory. Many residents now spend significant time near bomb shelters or reinforced safe rooms as part of civil defense precautions.
Businesses have reduced operations, travel has been disrupted, and public events have been canceled as authorities attempt to protect civilians from potential attacks.
Nevertheless, many Israelis say that enduring these hardships is preferable to allowing Iran to expand its military capabilities.
Military Strategy and Escalation
Israeli officials have said the military campaign aims to degrade Iran’s missile and drone capabilities and reduce the threat posed by Iranian-backed groups across the Middle East.
The conflict has expanded beyond Iran itself. Hezbollah forces in Lebanon have launched strikes against northern Israel, prompting Israeli retaliation across the border.
At the same time, Israeli and U.S. airstrikes have targeted Iranian military infrastructure, including missile launch sites and underground storage facilities.
Military leaders have indicated that the campaign could last several weeks depending on operational developments.
Fatigue and Concerns About Prolonged Conflict
Although support for the war remains strong, many Israelis acknowledge growing fatigue from constant emergency conditions.
Civilians have endured repeated security alerts and disruptions since the conflict began, and families with relatives in the military face uncertainty about how long the fighting could continue.
Some analysts say public support reflects the perception among many Israelis that Iran poses an existential threat to the country’s security.
However, experts warn that if the war drags on or leads to heavier civilian casualties or economic damage, public sentiment could shift.
A Nation Balancing Resolve and Uncertainty
For now, Israeli society appears largely unified behind the war effort, even as the risks of escalation remain high.
Political leaders have emphasized that the conflict is aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities rather than targeting the Iranian population.
With missile threats continuing and regional tensions escalating, many Israelis say they are preparing for a prolonged period of uncertainty while hoping the campaign will eventually reduce long-term security threats.
