India and the United Arab Emirates have signaled a decisive shift toward a deeper defence partnership, pledging closer coordination on counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, and security cooperation as both countries confront an increasingly volatile regional and global threat environment.
The renewed emphasis on defence ties emerged from high-level discussions between officials from India and the United Arab Emirates, reflecting a convergence of strategic interests that now extends well beyond trade and energy into hard security domains.
In a joint statement, both sides reaffirmed a “zero-tolerance approach to terrorism in all its forms,” vowing coordinated action against terror financing, cross-border extremism, and the misuse of emerging technologies by non-state actors.
From Strategic Dialogue to Defence Alignment
While India and the UAE have steadily expanded military-to-military engagement over the past decade, officials now suggest the relationship is approaching the contours of a formal defence partnership. Talks focused on enhancing joint training, expanding naval cooperation in the Indian Ocean, and increasing interoperability between armed forces.
Defence officials discussed the possibility of more frequent joint exercises, exchanges between defence institutions, and cooperation in areas such as cyber defence, maritime security, and unmanned systems.
