Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness doesn’t believe that Jürgen Klopp has a long-term future at energy drink giant Red Bull.
“I could never imagine him as an official who travels around the country, to New York and looks after several teams,” Hoeness told the OMR podcast on Sunday.
“And I don’t think it will be a good model in the long run. I also don’t think he’ll do it forever, I can’t imagine that.”
Klopp resigned as Liverpool coach last year and since the beginning of 2025 he has been working as global head of soccer for Red Bull, where his responsibilities include co-managing Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
Hoeness recalled that Bayern wanted to sign Klopp in 2008 when he decided to leave Mainz. However, the Bavarians decided to bring in Jürgen Klinsmann as new coach, while Klopp took the job at Borussia Dortmund.
“I have always admired Jürgen Klopp as a coach who stands on the pitch, who develops a team, who uses his personality to drive a team forward,” Hoeness said.
When asked why Bayern didn’t think of offering Klopp a position in management after he left Liverpool, Hoeness replied: “I see Jürgen Klopp on the pitch and nowhere else.”
