A French humanitarian worker was among three people killed in a drone strike in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, according to statements from the rebel group operating in the region.
The attack occurred in North Kivu province, an area that has experienced intensified fighting between government forces and the rebel movement known as M23. The group said the strike targeted a location where civilians and aid personnel were present.
Local officials and humanitarian organizations reported that two other individuals were also killed in the explosion. Authorities said investigations are underway to determine the circumstances of the strike and confirm responsibility.
Incident in Conflict-Affected Region
The eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo has been the site of recurring armed conflict involving government troops and several armed groups. The region around North Kivu, near the borders with Rwanda and Uganda, has been particularly affected by violence.
Witnesses reported that the drone strike hit a building or area where aid workers had been operating, causing casualties and damage to nearby structures.

Role of the M23 Rebel Group
The M23 movement has been involved in clashes with the Congolese army for several years, and fighting intensified again in recent months. The group has accused government forces of carrying out the drone strike that killed the aid worker.
