Elderly Couple Murdered in East Delhi Home

An elderly couple was found brutally murdered inside their residence in East Delhi, police said on Monday, triggering alarm among residents and prompting an intensive investigation into what authorities suspect may be a case of targeted violence or robbery.
The bodies were discovered after neighbours alerted police when the couple failed to respond to repeated calls and their house remained locked from the inside for an unusually long time. When officers forced entry, they found both victims lying in separate rooms with visible injury marks, officials said.
Signs of Violence Inside the House
Preliminary findings suggest the couple was attacked with sharp weapons. Investigators said signs of struggle were visible inside the house, and bloodstains were found at multiple locations, indicating the victims may have resisted their attackers.
Police are also examining whether valuables were stolen, as cupboards were found open and household items appeared disturbed. “At this stage, we are not ruling out any motive,” a senior police officer said. “Robbery, personal enmity, and insider involvement are all being examined.”
Police Launch Manhunt
The Delhi Police has formed multiple teams to investigate the double murder. CCTV footage from nearby lanes and entry points to the locality is being analysed, and call records of the victims and their known associates are under scrutiny.
Forensic teams have collected fingerprints and other evidence from the scene. Post-mortem examinations are expected to determine the exact cause and time of death, which police believe occurred late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
Neighbours in Shock
Residents described the couple as quiet and well-respected members of the neighbourhood who largely kept to themselves. “They were elderly and lived alone. We never imagined something like this could happen here,” a neighbour said.
The killings have heightened concerns about the safety of senior citizens living alone in the capital, particularly in residential colonies with limited nighttime surveillance.
Safety Concerns for Elderly Residents
Rights groups and resident welfare associations have once again called for stronger community policing, regular welfare checks for senior citizens, and improved lighting and surveillance in residential areas.
Police officials urged residents to remain vigilant and to immediately report suspicious activity. “Community cooperation is crucial in cases like these,” an officer said.
