Davante Adams is proving to Rams that signing him was totally worth it

Davante Adams is only getting better as the weeks go on because he is hot!

The past several weeks, the 32-year-old has been like a Southern California Santa Ana wind, and it doesn’t look like there’s any cooling him off.

Week 10 only added to his display of dominance as Adams led the Los Angeles Rams in receiving yards with 77, and had a touchdown to ultimately beat their division rival, the San Francisco 49ers, in a 42-26 win.

“He’s like a fine wine, he just gets better with age,” said Rams Head Coach Sean McVay after yet another touchdown.

He has had six redzone touchdowns in the last three weeks combined.

That’s almost half of quarterback Matthew Stafford’s franchise record 13 touchdowns in the same 3-week span.

How did we get here?

On March 9, which would be the NFL off-season, the Rams and Adams decided to join forces.

The six-time Pro Bowler signed a two-year contract of $46 million with $26 million guaranteed.

This came as Adams was released from the New York Jets then Rams wide receiver and go-to guy Copper Kupp parted ways with the organization to join the Seattle Seahawks.

On the mention of the Seahawks, they also concluded Week 10 scoring more than 40 points to secure a victory that lifts them to an identical record as the Rams, 7-2.

The Rams will face Seattle for their Week 11 matchup in Los Angeles, which will be the first time that SoFi Stadium gets to experience Kupp in a uniform that is not representative of the Rams.

Because of the star power that fans, coaches, fellow players, and everyone in the football world has known Adams to have, this was an exciting move.

Aside from the excitement, there was a lot of anticipation and questions.

Was he going to fit into this group that they already had? How was his veteran presence going to impact the team?

Would this move make a Super Bowl for the Rams more possible than the prior season?

To be clear, all the wondering was positive, because there isn’t much that anyone could say is cause for pause when it comes to Adams’ game.

Before this season, the receiver has been the picture of consistency.

Last season, he came off of his fifth season in a row with 1,000 recorded receiving yards.

Now to the present day.

Adams currently has eight touchdowns in nine weeks with 491 yards, and Week 9 was the Rams’ eighth game due to them having a bye week following their win against the Jaguars in London Week 7.

Eight touchdowns in nine weeks with 491 yards may not seem like the most mind-blowing statistics to some, but Adams is sharing the field and sharing targets with some of the cleanest receivers, running backs, and tight ends in the league: Puka Nacua, Kyren Williams, Tyler Higbee and Jordan Whitington to name a few.

Week 9 is over, and it was a good one for #17.

He caught a total of two touchdowns and the second one was noteworthy for two reasons. First, the second TD was historic.

He secured the four-yard touchdown and in doing so, also secured his spot tying Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez for the eighth most receiving touchdowns in NFL history.

Don’t be surprised by the end of this season he’s moved up on that list.

The other reason his second Week 9 touchdown was significant was because Adams now leads the NFL in receiving touchdowns entering Week 10.

Where he is in terms of stats now is already ahead of where he has been in years past, so this is a great sign for Rams fans, and of course Adams himself.

“I think that we haven’t been able to truly maximize it,” said Adams referring to what the Rams have been able to produce so far this season.

Ahead of the Week 9 victory over the New Orleans Saints, Adams spoke to his confidence in his ability to get it done when it matters.

“It’s not a secret that I’ve been able to make plays in the red zone.”

And that he did as both of his Saints takedown touchdowns were within the redzone. Moreover, Adams has seven red zone touchdowns with seven red zone receptions.

As the team prepared for week 10 against the 49ers, this is just one thing on a list of many that is going well for L.A.

Adams is a core leader for this team, and what that means for him is having that 1% “better every day” mindset.

“Me being who I am, and Matthew being who he is, and just having the team that we do, my expectations are really high, and standards are really high for what I should bring and what this team should be able to do. So definitely not satisfied with what we’ve done, but happy with.”
