New York Giants’ Mike Kafka to keep reason for Bryan Cox firing in-house

The New York Giants (2-11) will play host to the Washington Commanders (3-10) this Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium. Interim head coach Mike Kafka, who is 0-3 since taking over the reins from the fired Brian Daboll, spoke to the media on Wednesday in preparation for the team’s final four games of the season.

Kakfa said the 21-day practice window would open this week for the return of cornerback Art Green (hamstring) and linebacker Darius Muasau (ankle), who are both on injured reserve (IR). Green last played in Week 8 and Muasau in Week 9.

There was no news on the potential return of linebacker Micah McFadden (foot), who has been out since Week 2. Kafka said McFadden was “itching to play.” He also offered updates on linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux (shoulder) and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr.

The coach addressed the recent firing of assistant defensive line coach Bryan Cox as well, opting to keep the reasons for his dismissal in-house.

Cox had been with the Giants since 2022, the first year of Daboll’s tenure as head coach. The firing could simply be performance-based. The Giants’ defense is 31st overall in the NFL this season and 31st against the run.
