Several former San Francisco 49ers have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and now another is closer to being immortalized in Canton, Ohio, forever, as Roger Craig was named a semifinalist for the 2026 senior class on Wednesday.
Craig, 65, spent four years at Nebraska before the 49ers took him in the second round (No. 49 overall) of the 1983 NFL draft. He spent eight seasons in San Francisco, making four Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams and winning three Super Bowls.
After leaving San Francisco, Craig spent one year with the Los Angeles Raiders and the final two seasons of his career with the Minnesota Vikings before returning to 49ers on a one-day contract to retire with the team that brought him into the NFL.
In 165 career games over 11 seasons, Craig rushed for 8,189 yards and 56 touchdowns on 4.1 yards per carry. He also caught 566 passes for an additional 4,911 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Craig is one of nine semifinalists, and the list will be trimmed down to three finalists in the near future.
