New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel is encouraged by rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson’s recent breakout performances, including his three-touchdown game against the New York Jets last Thursday night.
Henderson had a tremendous game, carrying the ball 19 times for 62 yards and scoring two touchdowns. He also caught a pass for a touchdown, becoming the first Patriots rookie running back to record two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown in the same game.
The Ohio State product has stepped up with Rhamondre Stevenson sidelined with an injury, and that was exemplified again in the win over the Jets.
“I think he had some really good runs. I think that we could block better,” Vrabel said on Henderson, during an appearance on The Greg Hill Show. “I think that he found the end zone, which was really, really important. …He’s continued to develop and continued to do a lot of really good things to help us. I’m excited that he’s having success.”
Week 11 was a microcosm of an incredible stretch of football from Henderson.
He has recorded 339 rushing yards and four touchdowns over the past four games. He is taking full advantage of his extra opportunities and providing another offensive spark for the team.
In a matter of weeks, he has gone from a promising rookie to a key playmaker.
