You can work up your Thanksgiving Day appetite at annual Turkey Trot races in Erie

It’s become an Erie Runners Club tradition within a tradition.

The club, led by president Dave Comi, will conduct its latest Turkey Trot races hours before Thanksgiving feasts for countless families in Erie County and beyond on Nov. 27. The race, which annually draws thousands, dates to the late 1970s and attracts people who return to Erie for the holiday.

The 10-kilometer event will start at 7:30 a.m., followed by the five-kilometer at 9, at Presque Isle State Park’s Beach One picnic pavilion. A corral start is planned for the event’s U-shaped course, with the finish line in the same vicinity.

A postrace awards ceremony and related festivities are scheduled for 10:30 at Waldameer Park’s Rainbow Gardens.

How do runners register for the Turkey Trot?

Runners can register ahead of the holiday at ercturkeytrot.com. The cost is $22.70 per runner, with a $25 increase on race day. Once registered, race information emails will be sent a few days before the race, according to the race website.

Rules to follow on race day

Spectators are asked to park at Waldameer and walk or take available shuttle buses to Beach One. Only volunteers or race personnel will be permitted to park on site.

The club’s website also asks that fans avoid crossing traffic lanes to get around slower runners.
