The Pittsburgh Steelers hit the Asante Samuel Jr. jackpot, signing the talented cornerback after he visited multiple NFL teams over the past few weeks — and we now know what jersey number he’ll wear.
On Wednesday, Samuel’s jersey number was revealed to be No. 22 — a departure from the No. 26 he wore in college and with the Los Angeles Chargers, but he now wears the number his father, Asante Samuel Sr., made famous with the Patriots, Eagles, and Falcons.

The last Steeler to wear No. 22 was Juan Thornhill, who was released on Monday in favor of bringing back a familiar face in undrafted rookie DB Sebastian Castro.
Samuel now resides on the Steelers’ practice squad while he continues to get up to speed with Pittsburgh’s defensive scheme, but it’s likely only a matter of time until he turns enough heads in practice to see some playing time.
