Not one, but two former New Orleans Saints quarterbacks will be at MetLife Stadium this Sunday as the Green Bay Packers take on the New York Giants in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
As expected, former Saints quarterback Jameis Winston will get the start for the Giants, filling in for rookie Jaxson Dart, who suffered a concussion in last week’s game against Chicago. Winston moves up to the QB2 spot — previously held by Russell Wilson — to make his first start since October of last season. Adding to the occasion, one of his greatest mentors will be in attendance to witness it.
Future Hall of Famer and Saints legend Drew Brees will make his FOX Sports debut on the broadcast, calling the game alongside play-by-play announcer Adam Amin. It’s a full-circle moment for Brees, now covering the player once viewed as his successor.
Winston joined the Saints during the 2020 offseason with hopes of learning under Brees and eventually taking over once he retired. He got that opportunity in 2021, leading New Orleans to a 5-2 start before a season-ending ACL injury derailed his early season momentum. Injuries continued to plague him through 2022, and he hasn’t held a consistent starting role since.

Now, Winston gets another chance to reignite his career and spark a struggling 2–8 Giants team under new leadership. With Brees in the building, perhaps that extra bit of inspiration could help Winston and the G-Men find some much-needed energy on Sunday.
