It’s been a season of adjustments for the Los Angeles Rams, primarily on offense. They had to shuffle the offensive line due to early-season injuries, but in recent weeks, they’ve tweaked their personnel groupings significantly.
They went from being primarily an 11 personnel offense with three receivers on the field to now playing a lot of 13 personnel and heavily utilizing their four tight ends. Against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, they continued to switch up their rotations to keep the defense on its toes.
Here’s a look at the snap counts from the Rams’ 42-26 win over the 49ers.
Offense
WR adjustments continue: For the third week in a row, the Rams had a different wide receiver lead the group in snaps played. It was Jordan Whittington in Week 7, Davante Adams in Week 9 and Puka Nacua in Week 10. Part of that has to do with Nacua being injured in Week 7 and Adams exiting early on Sunday, but the shuffling occurred deeper down the depth chart, too. Jordan Whittington’s role disappeared with only seven snaps (he was questionable entering the game) and both Xaiver Smith and Konata Mumpfield overtook him in playing time.
Tight ends all get involved: It’s impossible to know whether Davis Allen, Colby Parkinson or Tyler Higbee will lead the tight ends in playing time because all of them have been at the top of the snap sheet at some point this season. They all played between 35 and 39 snaps, with Terrance Ferguson also playing 22 snaps.
RB rotation remains the same: Although Kyren Williams only had one more carry than Blake Corum, he played 13 more snaps in this game. The Rams are still aiming for a 67-33 split between their two runners and it’s worked perfectly thus far.
Defense
Status quo at cornerback: Even with Darious Williams back, the Rams stuck with Emmanuel Forbes Jr. and Cobie Durant at corner. Williams only played 12 snaps. No other cornerbacks got on the field, including trade acquisition Roger McCreary.
Kamren Kinchens’ role remains somewhat limited: Kinchens went from playing 80-90% of the snaps in the first four weeks to now playing between 45 and 70% in the last five games. He played just 56% of the plays on Sunday, with Jaylen McCollough playing 24% as the fourth safety.
