India Sparkles as Millions Celebrate Diwali Festival
India is aglow with joy and devotion as millions across the nation celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. This five-day Hindu festival, which began on October 18 with Dhanteras, culminated on October 20 with the main Diwali celebrations. Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
Record-Breaking Celebrations in Ayodhya
Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, witnessed a historic event on the eve of Diwali. Over 33,000 volunteers illuminated the banks of the Saryu River with a staggering 2.617 million (26.17 lakh) diyas (oil lamps), setting two new Guinness World Records. The volunteers, comprising students and devotees, coordinated the lighting of each diya simultaneously, creating a breathtaking display of light and faith. In Varanasi, sportsmen and athletes came together to light 25,000 diyas at the Paramanandpur Mini Stadium, forming the phrase “Kheloge to Khiloge” (Play to Grow) as a symbol of unity and sportsmanship. Beyond the festivities, Diwali holds deep spiritual meaning. In Indore, the Shri Yogmaya Mahalakshmi Temple was decorated with currency notes totaling over ₹1 crore, symbolizing prosperity and devotion.
