The Georgia Bulldogs have quite a few skeptics ahead of their Week 3 game at the Tennessee Volunteers. Georgia did not exactly impress in their 28-6 win over Austin Peay last week.
The Bulldogs are facing a massive challenge at Tennessee with quarterback Gunner Stockton making the first road start in his career. Georgia enters the Tennessee game with a few injuries and several questions about just how effective their offense will be.
The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs play the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 13. The Georgia-Tennessee game will serve as the SEC opener for both teams. Georgia (2-0) will be playing in its first road game on the season at Tennessee (2-0).
Here are three reasons why the Bulldogs will leave Knoxville with a win.
Superior coaching
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has been in many different situations going to a hostile environment as an opponent. He is 4-0 against Tennessee’s head coach Josh Heupel in their matchups with a 31-17 win in their game in Athens last season. If anyone in the country can prepare their team for a situation with their backs against the wall, then it is Georgia’s Kirby Smart.
Better defense
This Georgia defense is arguably the most talented group in the nation. Linebackers CJ Allen, Raylen Wilson, Chris Cole, and Justin Williams would start almost anywhere in the country. The defensive line has disruptive players like first-team All-SEC pick Christen Miller and five-star Elijah Griffin. In the secondary, everyone knows about what first-team All-SEC picks KJ Bolden and Daylen Everette bring. Sprinkle in Daniel Harris and former five-star Ellis Robinson IV this defense will create havoc on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.
Tennessee has not scored over 17 points against a Kirby Smart defense during the Josh Heupel era and that’s not going to change this season.
Run Game
The Georgia run game has found their groove early. The running back trio of Nate Frazier, Chauncey Bowens, and Dwight Phillips Jr. all bring different styles of running the football. All have scored a touched in the first two games. If they can get the run game going expect some play action and get completions to build up the confidence in starting quarterback Gunner Stockton.
