MSU hoops continues to push for elite, 4-star PF prospect from New Jersey

·

Michigan State basketball reportedly stopped in to see one of their top targets in the 2026 class this week.

Recruiting insider Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers reported on Thursday that Michigan State basketball sent coaches out to New Jersey to “check-in” on four-star power forward Julius Avent. Spartans head coach Tom Izzo and numerous assistant coaches were out in New York to visit with four-star shooting guard Jasiah Jervis on Wednesday and then also visited Avent, according to Weingarten.

Avent took an official visit to Michigan State this past weekend during the Spartans’ “Grind Week” event.

Avent is a four-star prospect with a recruiting rating of 97.21 in 247Sports’ composite rating system. He ranks as the No. 13 power forward and No. 77 overall prospect in the class. He’s also ranked as the No. 2 player from New Jersey.

Michigan State is one of five finalists still in the mix for Avent’s commitment. He is also strongly considering Xavier, Seton Hall, Penn State and Providence, with no currently set commitment date. We will need to continue to monitor his recruitment over the next month to see if Michigan State can secure this massive commitment.
