Barcelona’s Camp Nou return delayed, Valencia game to be played at Johan Cruyff Stadium

Barcelona have confirmed that their upcoming La Liga fixture against Valencia will not be played at the Camp Nou.

The announcement comes just five days before their scheduled match with Carlos Corberan’s side.

The Blaugrana were allowed to play their first three games away from home as they looked to complete the first phase of construction work at their iconic venue.

But they have not been able to fulfil the requirements needed to obtain the necessary permits, causing a delay for the third time after initially setting an opening date of November 2024.

Sunday’s match against Valencia will now be played at the 6000-seat Johan Cruyff Stadium – home of the club’s women team.

Barcelona have not given a specific date when they expected to be able to play at the Camp Nou, with home fixtures coming up against Getafe and Real Sociedad before the end of September.

The La Liga giants released the following statement: “FC Barcelona announces that the match corresponding to Matchday 4 of LaLiga, scheduled for Sunday, September 14 at 9:00 p.m. against Valencia CF, will not yet be able to take place at the Spotify Camp Nou.

“The Club is working intensively to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of the Spotify Camp Nou in the coming weeks. For this reason, the match will instead be played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.”

Barcelona have had an underwhelming summer transfer window, with Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford the only new arrivals at the club

But they have made a positive start to the new La Liga campaign, collecting seven points from their opening three matches.

Hansi Flick’s men crushed Mallorca 3-0 on the opening weekend before edging a five-goal thriller against Levante.

Barca were on course for another win at Rayo Vallecano after Lamine Yamal’s 40th-minute penalty.

But Fran Perez’s second-half leveller meant the Catalan giants could not maintain their 100 per cent record before the international break.
