Did Shedeur Sanders play today? Where Colorado legend landed in Browns QB room vs. Bengals
originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Cleveland Browns took the field Sunday for Week 1 of the 2025 NFL regular season against the Cincinnati Bengals.
In uniform for the game, among many others, was hyped-up rookie Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders has been part of a crowded QB room all offseason, and this was the first chance for it to play out in the regular season.
In the end, it ended disappointingly for the Browns, who lost 17-16 in a game with multiple missed kick attempts by Cleveland.
And it wasn’t a fun one for Sanders, either.

Did Shedeur Sanders play today?
No, Shedeur Sanders didn’t play in Week 1 for the Browns.
Sanders has been slotted as Cleveland’s No. 3 quarterback since the Browns traded Kenny Pickett away at the end of the preseason.
On Sunday, that meant he was the Browns’ emergency QB.
Joe Flacco started. Dillon Gabriel was his backup.
Sanders’ designation as emergency quarterback meant that the only way he could play is if both Flacco and Gabriel were injured. It’s an official NFL gameday slot the league created for QBs just to ensure they could avoid spots were non-quarterbacks had to play that position.
For now, it seems like that’s where Sanders will remain.
