PLANTATION, Florida, Sept. 5 — The No. 8 American Heritage [Plantation, FL] Patriots lead the No. 15 Chaminade-Madonna [Hollywood, FL] Lions,24-21, in the third quarter.

The Patriots trailed at the St. Joseph’s Hawks two weeks ago, 28-0, with less than five minutes to play before mounting a furious rally in one of the best comebacks you’ll see at the high school football level. It’s the only game they’ve played so far after taking a bye last weekend.

That same weekend didn’t go nearly as well for their opponent this weekend, No. 15 Chaminade-Madonna. The Lions were whipped by the No. 4 St. Frances Academy [Baltimore, MD] Panthers, 42-13, in a game that may not have been that close.

The two Florida powerhouses played last year in a high-flying affair that saw the Lions outlast the Patriots 48-39.

Both schools won state championships in Florida’s FHSAA ranks a year ago with American Heritage going on to capture the Class 4A title while Chaminade-Madonna was crowned the Class 1A champs.

Chaminade-Madonna gets a huge stop at their own 1-yard line. American Heritage’s Dia Bell is foreced to scramble, and the Lions tackle him for a loss to keep the Patriots from adding to their lead. There’s about 7:30 to play in the game.
