The Government of India has strongly rejected an Italian media report that attributed blame to the pilot in connection with a recent Air India crash, calling the claims “incorrect” and “speculative.”

In an official statement, India’s civil aviation authorities said that any conclusions regarding the cause of the crash would be determined solely through the ongoing formal investigation process and not through media speculation. The statement emphasized that accident investigations follow internationally recognized protocols under the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Official Rebuttal

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated that the investigation into the Air India incident remains active and that no final report has been issued assigning responsibility.

“Preliminary findings have not been finalized, and it is inappropriate to draw conclusions at this stage,” officials said. Authorities also noted that international cooperation is part of the investigative process when aircraft components, crew, or operational data involve foreign entities.

The government underscored that attributing fault to a pilot before the completion of black box analysis and technical evaluation undermines the integrity of aviation safety procedures.

The Italian Report

The Italian publication cited unnamed sources and suggested pilot error may have contributed to the crash. Indian authorities did not reference the publication by name but described the claims as premature and lacking verified evidence.

Aviation experts note that crash investigations typically involve multiple factors, including aircraft systems, weather conditions, air traffic control communications, and human performance assessments.

India’s response stressed that aviation accident analysis requires a comprehensive technical review and should not rely on selective or unofficial disclosures.

Ongoing Investigation

The crash, which involved an Air India aircraft, is being investigated under established procedures that include analysis of flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders.

Authorities have confirmed that the aircraft’s black boxes were recovered and are undergoing detailed examination by certified specialists. The investigation may also involve collaboration with the aircraft manufacturer and international aviation agencies, depending on the model and components involved.

The DGCA stated that a preliminary report would be released in accordance with regulatory timelines, with a final report to follow after full analysis.

Emphasis on Due Process

Indian aviation officials reiterated that aviation safety investigations are designed to improve systemic safety rather than assign blame prematurely. International standards require factual reporting based on verified evidence.

Family members of passengers have also called for transparency and careful handling of public information while the investigation proceeds.

What Comes Next

Authorities have not provided a specific timeline for the release of findings but confirmed that updates will be issued once verified information becomes available.

Until then, officials said, media outlets and commentators should refrain from attributing responsibility without official confirmation.

The government’s response reflects a broader emphasis on maintaining procedural integrity in aviation safety investigations.
