The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team plays its first regular-season match of the year at the John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Friday night. The Huskers will host the Wright State Raiders in the first game of the Ameritas Players Challenge. Nebraska is 4-0 on the season and is coming off a reverse sweep victory over the No. 7 Kentucky Wildcats.

Wright State is 2-1 on the year with five-set wins over Drake and Loyola Chicago and a 3-0 loss at Western Kentucky. The Raiders were the preseason pick to win the Horizon League after winning the last three regular-season conference championships and two of the last three Horizon League Tournaments. Wright State’s head coach is Travers Green. He is entering his fourth season with the Raiders and has won the last three Horizon League Coach of the Year honors.

The match will be a showdown between two of the nation’s top setters. The Raiders are led by Lauren Yacobucci, who was the Horizon League Setter of the Year last year after leading the nation in assists with 11.92 per set. Nebraska setter Bergen Reilly was named Big Ten Setter of the Year for the second year in a row and ranked No. 10 in the country with 11.09 assists per set.

Nebraska’s official home opener on Sept. 5 marks the latest home opener to start a season since 2013, when Nebraska hosted Villanova on Sept. 6. The Huskers also host the California Golden Bears on Sunday afternoon to close the event.

This Friday’s match will be the first meeting between Nebraska and Wright State.
